Official launch suspended
The Ethical jewellery blog began posting in January 2020, in preparation for an official launch in April 2020, complete with interviews, editorials and influencer collabs. Sadly this has all now been put on hold.
Whilst its obviously bad timing for our new venture, we’re going to be adjusting our content and keep posting, while postponing our official launch indefinitely. Our mission is to bring you great content, products and news from the world of ethical jewellery, but for the time being, we’ll be doing that in a different way. Instead of visuals and editorials, we will be concentrating on writing more long-form informative content as well as investigative pieces that can be researched, created and published from home.
We’re going to be more active and responsive on social media, (you can find our twitter here and our facebook here) and we hope that we can bring some interesting content to make your isolation a more bearable, informative and even positive experience.
One thing we will be covering is how the Chronovirus will affect people in mining communities around the world and what response the jewellery industry has. Larger diamond producers operating mines in South Africa, Canada and Russia have announced changes to normal operations and in some cases a suspension however many small may have no choice but to continue work.
As well as the increased health risks, disruption to the global demand for jewellery may well see prices for raw materials fall putting the future of small scale miners and their families in doubt.
As this virus continues to spread, no country and community will be unaffected. Its almost certain that people living in poorer countries, with limited if any access to health care facilities will be the most severely affected. I wonder how many ventilators there are in Arusha, Montdpuez and the DRC and who will have access to them.
One of our core objectives is to promote brands and makers who are doing great things and helping to bring clarity and transparency through their messaging. We’ve been reaching out to brands we feel do this, however, we’d love to hear from you if you’re in the field of ethical jewellery and would like to be featured.
